Back to basics.
Oh my God, I just got off the phone with our bass player.
I can't wait to get back to practicing and recording, and it's amazing, the rollercoaster you're on when you're starting out on a new endeavour like this. I especially felt bad because we played, like, only one real show and that was in *June*, and we haven't really spoken since (!).
The idea was (then, at least) to play more shows with the material from Apostrophes & Catastrophes, but I soon got caught up in other things. And then summer came along, and we all know how that goes.
However, over the last few months I've written a decent amount of songs, and more than anything else I just want to make a new album with these guys. I did A&C on my own, and while that was a worthwile and rewarding experience in itself, you can't beat the feeling (and sound!) of a couple of guys in a room, making music and rocking out. So basically, what I want more than anything else is just get together and get this thing onto tape. Well, hard drive, anyway.
I bought some new microphones and a new recording interface recently, and these past few weeks I have been recording some songs for JaĆowski, my friends' band. This proved fruitful for both parties, as they wanted to make a demo and I got to hone my recording and mixing skills and also got to know my new equipment a bit better. I hope to put some of the material online soon, if the band agrees.
So basically, I feel like a little kid. In two ways: 1, because I'm just coming out of my cocoon and jumping into this big scary new thing with so many factors I can't influence (control freak for life, baby!); you just hope that people are up for it - and boy, am I glad with Ewout & Paul their enthusiasm. And 2, because I love love love doing this and I feel like a kid in a candy shop.
Time will tell. I can't wait.
