Don't worry: I intend to follow through with the "Featured Track" thing until there are no tracks left on the album to feature. In the meantime, however, I want to share with you some demos I made in the process of recording Apostrophes & Catastrophes: some of them are songs that didn't make it onto the album, some are early incarnations of the versions you hear on the cd.

Let's start with one one from the former category: a track that's equal parts sugar sweet/bitter derision, while harvesting bonus pop points for staying clear of the three minute mark (it comes in at 2 minutes 59 seconds):

John Lennon got it spot-on: life really *is* what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. The problem is, not only do you have to keep making plans, the trick is to be prepared to make a 180 degree turn when the world gets pulled from underneath you like a magician's rug. (That makes you the made table + expensive china, by the way. So much for contrived metaphors.)

Wolkenvelden - A Slight Change of Plans (4.7MB MP3) (LYRICS)

Setting the tone with its intimate narrative, its ow-I-dropped-a-name verses (master US songsmith Josh Ritter, Nick Hornby's bible for twenty-somethings High Fidelity and the Smiths all get a mention) and its haunting outro, A Slight Change of Plans serves as an overture for the album. It's a first-hand account of a love gone wrong, without any precise knowledge of where it went wrong, exactly. Now go listen to the damn song.
